Hoàng Thanh Vĩnh Phong (b.1971, Quang Tri Province, Viet Nam) graduated from the Hue University of Fine Arts in 1996. Living a discreet life in Hoi An, Phong has consistently experimented with a myriad of forms and media – from oil and lacquer painting, to printing on ceramic and sculpting with found objects – simultaneously researching and expanding their techniques and capabilities for over three decades. The objects in his paintings - animals, simple household objects, Buddhist and Taoist religious motifs and the lotus flower - are perennial symbols of Vietnamese culture. His works are represented in the collections of the Nguyen Art Foundation (HCMC, Vietnam), The Outpost (Hanoi, Vietnam) and multiple private collections in Vietnam, Switzerland, Singapore, New Zealand, Belgium and Australia. Some notable exhibitions include: ‘Fractured Times’ (The Outpost Art Organization, Hanoi, 2022); ‘Portrait of the Mattresses’ (VICAS Art Studio, Hanoi, Vietnam, 2020); ‘Paradise Lost’ (Factory Contemporary Arts Centre, HCM City, 2017). ArtXchange Gallery has represented the work of Phong for over 20 years.
