Rhonda Khalifeh is Syrian-American artist and designer based in New York. She received a BA from New York University in 2013 and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2017. Her studio practice can be described as an investigation of surface and the ways in which it negotiates, protects, and betrays the human body. Her textile assemblages and installations frequently reference the language of garment construction to communicate narratives of human movement and assimilation. In 2018 she published Project Z with Open Projects Press. Through a series of in-depth interviews with nine participants, the book explores the practice of garment making in relation to community building. Khalifeh has been an artist in residence at the SVA Bio Art Lab and the Textile Arts Center. Recent exhibitions include Before We Were Banned (Santa Fe, NM) and Ojalá (New York City, NY). By day, she is the master dyer at Elizabeth Eakins Inc.
