A graduate of The Art Institute of Boston, Ms. Guzzi attended Boston University Teaching Training Program and was a Member of Faculty of the Art Institute from 1955 through 1961. An extremely talented and diverse artist, she is best known for her paintings of champion thoroughbreds and Triple Crown races along with her romantic impressionistic paintings of Victorian women and children. Rita was influenced early on by Winslow Homer's paintings of Victorian life. Her studio in Maine is very near Homer's studio in Prouts Neck, Maine. The works of Frank Merrit Chase and the seaside paintings of Boudin also impressed her. She has sketched and painted her Victorian women in settings around the world, from Nice and Cap Ferrat on The Cote D'Azur, Portofino and Positano in Italy, Boston Garden and Boston Common and the coasts of Maine and Connecticut. She has also placed her subjects in the Victorian era at Saratoga Springs. Future paintings will incorporate scenes of Deauville and Trouville. Since leaving the Art Institute in 1961, Rita has been busy painting and giving private lessons. Her work is displayed in galleries and museums throughout the United States. Rita was commissioned by NASA to document the first launch of the space shuttle Endeavor at the Kennedy Space Center. She also covered the launch of Discovery in September of 1988 for the U.S. Air Force art collection.
