Ella Richardson has been drawn to photography since she first laid her hands on a camera at the age of five. Throughout her teenage years and into her adult life, she has time and again felt most at home behind the lens of a camera. Through much visual exploration, she has discovered her visual passions lie in all kinds of subjects, be they architectural, figurative, or more deeply rooted in nature. Whether she is photographing a multitude of dogs playing on the Northern California coastline or the intricacies of one flower's bloom, Richardson delights in discovering the essence of that subject on film. In that moment where she is behind the camera focusing on the natural beauty of the landscape or model before her, she always finds a spiritual home: a place where God himself may be captured through the intricate details of His exquisite creations. Richardson's extensive body of photography reflects not only her adoration of nature, but also her many voyages. Her intuitive drive to travel coalesced with her visual passions as a young child, when she first dreamed of photographing Africa. Richardson was able to make this dream a reality seven years ago, when she traveled through Kenya and Tanzania, her camera in tow. Stunningly atmospheric images from this voyage feature close attention to the effects of shadow and light. Her impressive photographs of cheetahs, elephants, and lions, taken in close proximity, showcase Richardson's adventurous spirit. Although her artworks are in homes across the country, including one piece in the offices of the U.S. Capitol, Richardson’s devotion to the visual arts extends beyond her photography. As the founder of Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art, she brings exquisite work by internationally renowned artists from across the country and Europe to Charleston for exhibit and acquisition.
