Painter Beck Lane has been a working artist for over four decades. The artist’s multi-medium work can be found in collections across the country & around the world from Cape Cod to Sarasota to Washington state, from South America to Israel, from London to Qatar. The artist is often called “prolific” & a “painter’s painter” but has also been described as “the love child of a Russian graffiti artist & Vincent Van Gogh”. Until 2011, Lane’s work consisted of fairly customary vignettes but the paintings have evolved into a gripping, visual adventure the artist calls “von innen” (or “from within”). It is a wholly unique style developed by applying both flat & glossy oil paint over aerosols over black & white gesso on stretched & unstretched canvas as well as less untraditional surfaces with pencil, chalk & oil pastel sometimes thrown into the mix. The result is an engaging force where the artist & the viewer are holding a conversation not only about the image but how to develop paintings thru the use of decisive brush strokes & an emotional undercurrent of layered color & texture. In addition to canvas & gallery work the Beck is also:The official artist for SEE Alliance, the nationally recognized youth led social justice group based in SarasotaThe featured artist for Urbanite Theatre, Sarasota’s black box theatreThe 2025 winner of the SarasotaOUT favorite artist award A Halo Arts Project Award fellow, 2023The first individual artist to receive a grant from the Johnson Singer Foundation, 2023A Hambidge Center for the Arts & Sciences fellow, 2024Juror for the Hambidge fellowship, 2025
