"My goal is to always create work that is mysterious and thought-provoking, yet approachable enough to fully engage the eyes and inspire new thinking. In my work, I deconstruct our ordinary view of everyday objects like food, insects or people by photographing them and resurrecting them into new modern works that can find themselves in even the most traditional or surprising of surroundings. Three years of research and perfecting the process were necessary to arrive at this point. I call the process: "Hand Applied Photographic Collage". Each distinctive work requires the use of both aged and modern techniques—using both ways time has tested and ways that capture our thoughts today. Traditional methods are combined with contemporary means in digital imagery and new media, which is the foundation my artistic production. It is in this fusion of techniques that I am able to depict cherished, but everyday subjects in a way that only our imaginations can imprint them in our minds. Over my thirty year career as a photographer and artist, I have always worked in grids and segments. I seem to see life in this form of structure. It helps me to dissect the subtle nuances of an image and create an understanding of what makes the subject so special. Each image starts as a photograph. The initial image is dissected into varying parts, based on the subject matter. Then each image is hand applied as a collage onto varying media. The subtle changes that occur during the process seem to add to the final result." David Humphreys
