Mia Kaplan. American Artist and Architect, b. 1983 Mia Kaplan is a painter, sculptor, architect, and historian from southeast Louisiana. Mia received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Drawing and Printmaking from the Memphis College of Art, and two degrees, Master of Architecture and a Master of Preservation Studies, from Tulane University. Her work represents a personal language of botanical forms that transition from calligraphic drawings and paintings to expressionist sculptures. She works in a variety of media, often combining and utilizing materials in unexpected ways, while exploring themes of growth, revival, and transformation. Mia’s work has been exhibited at the Louisiana State Museum, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Walter Anderson Museum of Art, New Orleans Botanical Gardens, and is in the collections of the Virgin Hotel New Orleans, Ritz Carlton Hotel New Orleans, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Baton Rouge, and the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
