Mariella Bisson is a painter of nature's force and beauty. She makes paintings in mixed media on linen or on wood panel and works on paper in watercolor, collage, printmaking and drawing. She draws and paints on site as a means of gathering visual information and cherishing the actual experience of place. Her outdoor paintings and drawings form the basis for large-scale paintings made in Studio Fenario, her creative space in Woodstock, NY. "Nature is big. Boulders are massive and trees are tall. Waterfalls are powerful. I love to make big paintings including all those elements.I climb ladders to paint the top. If I can’t reach across to the middle I might have to work on them horizontally on tabletops as well — painting the image upside down ( as I see it ) and dealing with what will become the left side on my right hand side. At Pratt Institute, we learned artisanal skills as well as artistic know-how. I have placed many commissioned large works in homes, hospitals and corporations. I delve into the process of working with my gallerists as they bring their clients through the stages of making a large commission. Clients approve my initial sketch, then see my underlying collage layer and finally we have a finished painting. Making a commission is creating two things- #1 a beautiful painting and #2 a happy client." -Mariella Bisson Click to view: Mariella Bisson Artwork Catalog
