Lulie Morrisey practiced decoupage (Estuary Designs) and collage for 25 years before moving exclusively into collage more recently. The artist, who lives in Quogue, Long Island, has enjoyed completing the transition from the more decorative arts to a form free from any rules and bound to a unique aesthetic informed by the use of found images. Many of her collages encompass a narrative element evoking a sense of world travel and mystery with a touch of the surreal. The juxtaposition of disparate elements creates depth and texture while the many separate cutout pieces she uses establish multiple planes in her work. Lulie is continually inspired by early 20th century artists Picasso, Braque, Matisse, Schwitters – and the mid-20th century master, Joseph Cornell.
