My work is based in the natural world, often inspired by photographs of my daily wanderings. As I walk down city streets or on the beaches of Eastern Long Island, I am struck by shadows cast by a barely budded pear tree or the orange light, at dusk, illuminating the windows of a turn of the century brownstone; of a flock of Piping Plovers skirting the surf, or the Reservoir just before dark. I use the quotidian to illuminate the human experience, to reveal the mystery in the obvious, to connect me to you and our shared experience on this earth. More comfortable with form than line, much of my work is based on reduction, inking or painting a surface and then removing the paint with a variety of tools, including my fingers, rags, etc. I enjoy the tactile aspects of working with my materials.
