Biography |Originally from Greenville, SC, Taylor Adams is an abstract artist based in upstate South Carolina. She attended the University of Florida where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in May of 2015. Having always lived along lakes and ocean fronts, Adams is largely influenced by bodies of water and reflects this movement and form through her work. Working primarily with thread and ink, Adams creates abstractions reminiscent of landscapes and moments found in nature. Inspired by her mother, a seamstress, Adams began introducing thread to her paintings in 2015. Using mixed-media gestures to build a vocabulary of marks, she is interested in the idea of creating conversations that tell the story of a feeling, a moment, and a place. Artist Statement |Using hand-painted fabrics, thread and found fiber, Taylor Adams creates abstracttextile pieces that speak to the careful tensions and poetic nature of life. Soaking, splatteringand brushing ink across scraps of fabric, she works in fluid gestures that result in soft displays of color and pattern. Collaging these fabric pieces into structured compositions, she creates further dimension with layered strands of thread. Adams strives to strike a finely tuned balance of geometric form and organic mark-making within her work. Her interest in the use of fiber as a medium roots back to her mother teaching her to sew at a young age. Today, she utilizes this material to tell stories of interaction - excavating memory and emotion, creating a feeling both whole and boundless, serene and kinetic.
