Murat Brierre joined the Art Center in 1957 and became one of Haiti’s most prominent metal sculptors. Although Georges Liautaud influenced him, his work evolved into a distinct style. His sculptural subjects reflect Christianity and Haitian voodoo themes, primarily emphasizing female nudes and embracing couples, devils, mermaids, and birds. Brierre exhibited his work in the United States, Mexico, and Jamaica. His sculptures are showcased in the National Pantheon of Haiti, and his name is recognized in many discussions about Haitian art books.
