Haitian artist Jean-Claude Blanc was born on April 24, 1965, in Cap-Haïtien, Haiti. His artistic journey began in 1983 as a member of Arc-en-Ciel, the art school founded by Laetitia Schutt. Raised in a modest family—his father worked as a gardener and rum distiller, while his mother sold vegetables—Blanc developed a deep connection to everyday Haitian life. He first experimented with watercolors before transitioning to oils, establishing a distinctive style inspired by market women dressed in white. Over time, Blanc’s creativity flourished in his vibrant jungle scenes, celebrated for their imaginative use of color and dynamic composition. Today, he lives and works in Port-au-Prince and has exhibited widely in Haiti, the United States, and Europe, earning recognition as a significant voice in contemporary Haitian art.
