Artist Bio Nix Laemmle was born and raised in Freiburg, Germany, a region known as the three-corner country, with France and Switzerland as immediate neighbors. Her mother, a weaver and painter, recognized her daughter's passion for art early on and supplied her with various mediums to explore. From 1992, Nicole studied jewelry design and painting in Germany and Basel, Switzerland. She graduated from Kunstgewerbeschule, Basel in 1995. Since then, she has worked as an independent jewelry designer and painter, exhibiting at numerous regional galleries. Aside from creating her own work, she has focused on bringing people together by connecting artists from Germany and neighboring countries through talks, workshops, and exhibitions. In 1999, she received a scholarship from the Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft, sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Research of the Federal Republic of Germany, to study Fine Art and Jewelry Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC. While living in New York City, Nicole discovered her passion for abstract paintings. Being away from the familiar surroundings of her upbringing yet immersed in the cosmopolitan mecca she had always sought, she delved into the unknown. She began painting lines in a lively variety and rhythmic interplay, creating vibrant dialogues and visually kinetic works. Nicole enjoys working back and forth between colors, disregarding the rules of foreground and background, while studying light, form, and color interaction – a continuous search for challenges and solutions. In addition to her personal pursuit of art, she co-founded 4heads, a nonprofit arts organization that enables artists to exhibit their work for free in a month-long art fair, reflecting her origins."Art is a language which cannot be replaced by another language and reaches out to us to nourish our being." - Nix Laemmle Artist’s Statement I am an abstract painter. Born into a family of clock-makers and weavers, my attention to precision and consciousness for color is embedded in me. From an early age, I found solace in color. The depth, play, and sensation of color intrigue me, as do the infinite possibilities of color compositions and movement. I enjoy working with acrylic paint, which enables me to paint layer over layer, creating a back and forth between light and dark and resulting in visually kinetic works. While painting, I don't have a conscious plan; I feel challenged yet calm, experiencing a certain harmony between the two – a continuation. My work is titled "Continuum," as a continuum is something that keeps on going, changing slowly over time, like the continuum of the four seasons. I aim to create abstract compositions that are visually and intellectually stimulating while communicating a sense of tranquility and privacy. The poetic and meditative qualities of my artwork reflect the serenity I desire.
