(1941 - Present) Painter, Miguel Martinez, is the youngest son of Hispanic parents. He was born and has lived in Taos, New Mexico, since 1951. Martinez has worked with a number of prominent New Mexico artists, and has been affected by the art of Mexican artists, Diego Rivera and Francisco Zuniga, as well as the poignant emotional images of Amedeo Modigliani. Martinez’s signature style is recognized worldwide. He is know for modernist paintings of the faces of the beautiful women of the Southwest, whose mysterious, illusive and provocative expressions fill almost the entire canvas. Martinez has created these women in an ambiance of everyday life, giving them a voice which has proven to speak to the hearts of a universal following.
