(1918 – 2007) Paul Marciel Souza was as an accomplished American oil painter, watercolorist and educator born in Hawaii. Souza studied at the University of Hawaii’s Honolulu Academy of Art and with Ben Norris and Stanley Reckless at the Art Center School in Los Angeles, California, as well as with Isamu Noguchi, Frederick Taubes and Millard Sheet. After 1946, Paul Souza taught at the Art Center School in Los Angeles for 45 years, influencing the careers of many of today’s important illustrators and painters. A world traveler, Souza painted in Morocco and Spain as well as California and Hawaii. He is known particularly for his impressionistic-style landscapes.*
