When Kent Walsh paints, she responds to memory—whether consciously or subliminally. Her instinctive emotional reactions pay off with contradiction: nature and architecture, disaster and beauty, and detachment and love all fold into one another with ease. Each piece starts with an impulse and remains unfinished until it “proves its merit” as a fresh new love from her soul. In her abstract work, Walsh allows her imagination to fully step in. She builds upon each painting, tears it down, paints it more, and scratches away excess. The artistry she’s built upon, ever since her grandmother gifted her oils at five years old, is always growing. She continues to learn and relearn how to push herself through creative boundaries. “My work is always changing,” Walsh says, “I refuse to plagiarize myself.” Walsh lives in Point Clear, Alabama.
