Kristin Müller is a multi-cultural artist who specializes in wood fired ceramics and maintains a studio with an Anagama hybrid kiln in Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania. While ceramics is her primary medium she also loves photography and experimenting with printmaking. She is the Executive Director of Peters Valley School of Craft, holds a Bachelor of Science in Studio Arts from Southern Connecticut State University, a Masters of Fine Arts in Ceramic Arts from Hood College, and is member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society. Kristin is the author of “The Potter’s Studio Handbook: A Guide to Hand Built and Wheel-Thrown Ceramics” published November 2007 by Quarry books and is co-author of “Making Good: an Inspirational Guide to Being and Artist Craftsman” published April 2017 by Schiffer Publishing. Kristin exhibits her work internationally and is an Adjunct Professor at Hood College and frequently contributes to art journals. After spending many years building technical skills, what Kristin loves the most is the creative synergy at play when in the studio or exploring a new direction in her work. Restless by nature, she works within a stream of consciousness, allowing a myriad of impressions to flow through her work stemming from the visual, experiential, physical, and subliminal. Kristin is inspired by the world around her and by memories of places and people she has interacted with. She is ever curious about the next mark or piece she can make. There is also an abstraction to much of her sculptural work with a grounded approach to particular images and forms. She explores dichotomies of functional and expressive form that both amplify and summarize her vision. Essentially, she chases ideas and tries to capture them in the work. While her process is sometimes deliberate, the most productive moments are those in which she lets go and immerses herself in the process of making. On these occasions thoughts are channeled through her hands, onto the material of choice.
