In monumental yet intimate works on paper, Rachel Wolfson Smith weaves together physical and emotional landscapes that render nature as a mirror. The drawn environments are shaped by the inner worlds of women and the histories that positioned them as separate from nature. Graphite marks and erasures, along with cyanotypes that capture movement, become metaphors for beauty, chaos, and care. Smith’s work has been exhibited across the United States and Europe and is held in collections including Google, artist Kiki Smith, and UT Southwestern Medical Center. She is a recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant, and her Women & Their Work exhibition catalog was acquired by The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Residencies include The Drents Museum, 100W Corsicana, and The Contemporary Austin’s Crit Group. She holds a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from Indiana University. Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, she now lives and works in Amsterdam.
