Selena Beaudry lives and works in London. She received her MFA from Tyler School of Art in 2000. She creates installations, paintings and collages. She has shown throughout the United States and first showed her work in London last year at Mrs and Mr Bateman. Selena’s work has been seen in multiple publications, most recently Architectural Digest. Artist Statement:All of my work is created by a series of marks, or perhaps the lack of marks. At some point along the way I began to cut up my drawings, save remnants of paint and collect bits of fabrics. This has led to a rediscovery of my visual language. It brought up questions in my studio practice. What is a mark and what can I do with it? Through this formal exercise I have created three bodies of work: collages, installations and paintings.The work is all related, taking inspiration from each other, every day moments and the excess that we are surrounded by. The piles of paint could be a thought or scream, other times a babble or a screech. The fabric, cut up paper and the stitching become slashes, smears and fine lines. The work has a lyrical quality, they string together, flutter and dance across the room, page or canvas. Some are tougher, zigging and zagging, bumping and bouncing into one another, creating a frenetic landscape. Each of the pieces begins to take on its own essence or story. A piece can be about a foggy day, a woman with smeared lipstick on her face, or being told not to use green.In the end, all of the work has been inspired by my surroundings, adventures and encounters and is a reflection of my ideas of beauty, indulgence, seduction and frivolity.
