Ariel “Aryel” René Jackson is an artist whose work examines the emotional and political life of land through the lens of Black ecological memory, diasporic inheritance, and speculative visual language. Working across performance, sculpture, video, printmaking, and sound, Jackson draws from ancestral knowledge and Southern Black agrarian traditions to explore how materials—especially soil—can register temporal, bodily, and environmental data. Their installations often act as field stations for speculative storytelling, remixing scientific methods, folkloric gestures, and non-linear time into ceremonial compositions. Recent presentations include a screening at MoMA (2022), installation at The Contemporary Austin (2023-24), and SculptureCenter (2019).
