Benjamin Anderson’s precise, yet gestural paintings focus on specific moments of interactions with nature. The artist imbues his geometric, meditative seascapes with intimate painterly detail and an occasional sense of raw energy: Thick paint balances nuanced spray paint, nature vibrates with mathematical geometric precision and the question of how natural energy is contained within us is at the fore of Anderson’s work. The American born, California based artist studied at the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco (BFA), Haines Alaska, Florence, Italy and has exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Holland, Mykonos, Greece, Venice, Italy and more. His work has been in multiple Museum shows, is in the collection of the Carnegie Art Museum and has been featured by the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. A “painter’s painter”, Anderson finds inspiration in his daily ritual visits to the ocean and in art historical practices; his details feel contemporary, while his compositions are timeless. Anderson currently lives in Santa Barbara, California. EDUCATION1998-2002 B.F.A.
