Jainite Silvestre was born in the state of Tlaxcala in 1991. She studied at the University of Guanajuato, earning a degree in Plastic Arts, where she specialized in engraving and lithography.Jainite joined El Pinche Grabador, a printmaking workshop in Guanajuato, in 2013. There, in addition to her own practice, she works with visiting printmakers from all over the country. Silvestre has exhibited widely across Mexico and in exhibitions in Brasil, Argentina, China, and England. The artist says, “My work is connected to my ancestral roots where the gods walk with the sun and goddesses blossom from the damp earth. Through the years of the evolution of Mexican mestizaje, the country continues to be colonized and despite this, our people still fight to remember where we come from with artisan hands. This tapestry of languages, traditions and beliefs guides my work, a series that creates a dialogue between symbols, fauna, flora and gods of my homeland. With my feminine gaze, I portray myself within the body of the goddesses, embracing the strength of these goddesses who express the legends told by the voices of the ancient, as well as my inner being.”
