Pierre-Louis Riché (b. 1954, Cap-Haïtien, Haiti) is a Haitian painter known for his distinctive figurative style and satirical portrayals of human subjects. A self-taught artist, he began painting in his twenties in the atelier of renowned Cap-Haïtien master Philomé Obin, initially focusing on historical scenes before developing his signature subject matter.Riché is best known for his paintings of exaggerated, voluminous figures rendered with fine detail and rich color. His work blends humor and social commentary, using distortion as a form of satire. As art historian Gérald Alexis noted in Peintres Haïtiens, the grotesque appearance of his figures reflects a deliberate and expressive artistic choice. His paintings are widely exhibited and collected across Europe, Latin America, the United States, and Japan. Today, Pierre-Louis Riché’s work is highly sought after for its originality, technical refinement, and strong visual identity within modern Haitian art.
