Mary Robertson’s paintings are rooted in the landscapes of Northern California’s Russian River region, where she has worked for more than twenty five years. Her scenes of beaches, umbrellas, floats, and figures capture moments of quiet leisure under the distinctive light of the Bay Area. Though intimate in scale, the paintings carry a luminous atmosphere that transforms ordinary moments into meditative experiences. Steeped in the traditions of Bay Area figurative painting, Robertson’s work reflects influences from American Realism and Impressionism. Her compositions often convey a sense of suspended time, where light, color, and gesture come together in images that feel both joyful and contemplative. “Mary Robertson’s joyous and meditative paintings are colorful simulations of contentment and sacred play.” Wayne Thiebaud.
