Established Bay Area artist William Rushton paints with a colorist and near-sculptural approach. Rushton’s canvases, whether figurative, still life, or landscape, are thick and heavy with brightly hued oil paint, and they tell autobiographical stories of daily American life. Aiming to get “lost” in the process of art making, the artist says that he is most satisfied when he paints faster than he can think, allowing intuition and painting skills honed over a lifetime to take hold. Not knowing where he is going, yet trusting he will arrive, facilitates endless discoveries that keep William Rushton engaged, inspired, and pushing onward.
