Paul Batch is a contemporary painter praised for his evocative atmospheric landscapes. His paintings are a poetic response to the fleeting and ephemeral light cast by the passing sun or rising moon. He focuses on transitions, painting various times of day, changing weather, and the rich seasons that New England offers.“My work reflects the tone and qualities offered by nature. I strive to convey a felt experience through my art. Though most of my work is representational, I keep myself open to embracing the more abstract elements of each individual scene.”He is an award-winning member of Oil Painters of America and Portrait Society of America. His work has appeared in numerous publications including the Artist’s Magazine, International Artist and Fine Art Connoisseur. Paul resides in Massachusetts with his wife and their two children.EDUCATIONHartford Art School, University of Hartford, West Hartford, CT: MFA, Painting, BFA, PaintingGROUP EXHIBITIONS 2019Virtuosos of the Oil Painters of America, Cutter and Cutter Fine Art, FL2018Oil Painters of America Eastern Regional Exhibition, McBride Gallery, MDOil Painters of America National Exhibition, Steamboat Museum, COLight Catchers, The Work of Jonathan Earle and Paul Batch, Addison Art Gallery, MA2016Oil Painters of America National Exhibition, Southwest Gallery, Dallas TXModern Master Miniatures, The Cooley Gallery, Old Lyme, CT2015 Leaving Our Mark: The Celebration of the Pencil, D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts, Springfield, MAThe Art of the Portrait, International Portrait Competition, Portrait Society of America, Grand Hyatt Hotel, Atlanta, GAOil Painters of America Eastern Regional Exhibition, Eckert & Ross Fine Art, Indianapolis, INAll Paintings Great and Small, The Cooley Gallery, Old Lyme, CTOil Painters of America National Exhibition, Cutter & Cutter Fine Art Galleries, St. Augustine, FL2014 Oil Painters of America Eastern Regional Exhibition, Eisele Gallery of Fine Art, Cincinnati, OHThe Art of the Portrait, International Portrait Competition, Portrait Society of America, Hyatt Regency Reston Hotel, Reston, VARegional Exhibition, The Guild of Boston Artists, Boston, MA2013 Two-Person Exhibition, Art Gallery at the Mill House, Chester, CT (with Caleb Stone)PAUL BATCH SOLO EXHIBITIONS2014Painting New England, The Gallery at Lost Acres Vineyard, North Granby, CT2013Mill House Gallery, Chester, CT2012Whispered Screams, MFA Thesis Exhibition, Silpe Gallery, West Hartford, CT2011Watching the Sun Set, The Gallery of Fine Art at Venetucci Home, Westbrook, CTFleeting Light, Left Bank Gallery, Essex, CTAWARDS 2015Exceptional Merit Award, The Art of the Portrait, International Portrait Competition, Portrait Society of America, Grand Hyatt Atlanta, GABest Associate Award of Excellence, Oil Painters of America National Exhibition, Cutter & Cutter Fine Art Galleries, St. Augustine, FLHonorable Mention, 32nd Annual Art Competition, The Artist’s Magazine 2014Exceptional Merit Award, The Art of the Portrait, International Portrait Competition, Portrait Society of America, Hyatt Regency Reston Hotel, Reston, VA2013Salmon Brook Watershed Association Award, Art & Agriculture: Celebrating the Farmington Valley’s Natural Beauty, The Gallery at Lost Acres Vineyard, North Granby, CT2012Steven Brown Memorial Award, Places of Inspiration: Celebrating the Farmington Valley’s Natural Beauty, The Gallery at Lost Acres Vineyard, North Granby, CTTELEVISION“Blindspot,” Season 2, “Whispered Screams” featured in apartment of main characterPUBLICATIONS “Master Showcase,” International Artists Magazine, Issue #107, February/March 2016, Color reproduction and statementThe Artist’s Magazine, Volume 32, Issue #10, December 2015, Color reproduction and statement Fine Art Connoisseur, December 2015, Color reproductionJournal of the Portrait Society of America, Issue #67, 2015, Color reproduction, photo of the artist, and statement“The Art of the Portrait,” International Artists Magazine, Issue #104, August/September 2015, Photo of the artist and award recognitionStrokes of Genius 6; Value/Lights & Darks, North Light Publishing, Blue Ash, OH, October 23, 2014, Full page color reproduction and artist statementWORKSHOP PRESENTATIONS AND SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS “Painting Emotive Landscapes,” Manchester Art Association, Manchester, CT“Brining the Outside In,” Wethersfield Academy of Arts, Wethersfield, CT“Painting From Start to Finish,” Avon Art Association, Avon, CT“The Tonalist Tradition,” Silo Gallery at Hunt Hill Farm, New Milford, CTDEMONSTRATIONS2017Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Newtown, CT, March 82016Manchester Art Association, Manchester, CT, September 21Glastonbury Guild of Artists, Glastonbury, CT, April 192015Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Newtown, CT, October 14Madison Art Society, Madison, CT, July 22014Tolland County Art Association, Tolland, CT, October 18Watertown Art Association, Watertown, CT, September 8Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Newtown, CT, May 282013Tobacco Valley Art Association, Agawam, MA, November 20West Hartford Art League, West Hartford, CT, October 17Windsor Palette and Brush Club, Windsor, CT, May 14Avon Art Association, Avon, CT, April 16Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Newtown, CT, March 13Hamden Art League, Hamden, CT, January 8
