Originally from Upstate New York, Julie Beck attended Roger Williams University in Rhode Island where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. After a 10 year career in graphic design/ video editing with continued self-taught artistic development, a move to Massachusetts introduced her to the Academy of Realist Art, Boston. Finding technical training in her 30s catapulted her work to a new level. This became the catalyst for a complete life overhaul. Since then, Julie has become an instructor as well as the Assistant Director of ARA Boston.Julie creates work with a wide range of subjects including narrative still life paintings and the occasional animal/figurative works. Her interest lies in exploring and testing boundaries of reality, rules, and the interaction between the paint and viewer. Julie’s work can be found in private collections throughout the US and internationally.EducationAcademy of Realist Art Boston, 2011-2016 certificate of formal trainingRoger Williams University, Bachelor's Degree, Mathematics, 2002Teaching 2013 - Current, Academy of Realist Art BostonRecent Shows2023 Holiday Show, Susan Powell Gallery2023 Tight, 1261 Gallery, Denver CT2023 New Blood, RLS Gallery2023 Playing Favorites, RLS Gallery, South Carolina2023 Making their Mark, Susan Powell Gallery2023 Valentine’s Show, Susan Powell Gallery2022 RLS Gallery, Birds and the Bees, South Carolina2022 REALISM 2022 Wethersfield, Connecticut 2022 Susan Powell, Artists to Watch2022 Saint Botolph Fellows Exhibition, Boston, MA2022 Copley Society, Crossing Borders2021 Copley Society, Seasonal Changes2021 Annual Guild of Boston Artists Juried Exhibition, Boston, MA2021 1261 Gallery, Denver, CO Small Works2021 RLS Gallery, The Listening Room, South Carolina2021 RLS Gallery, Still Alive, South Carolina2021 Copley Society New Members Show2020 “Speak Up” Piano Craft Gallery, Boston, MA2020 Annual Guild of Boston Artists Juried Exhibition, Boston, MA2020 Bold Women of Still Life, Bowersock Gallery, Provincetown, MA2019 “Our Hands Are Full of Color” solo show, University of Maine Museum of Art, MEAwards/Honors2023 Audrey Love Award, Allied Artists of America2022 First Place, Wethersfield Academy 2022 Biennial Fine Art Competition Show2021 Second Place, Copley Society, Seasonal Changes2021 Gold Medal, Annual Non-Members Juried Show, Guild of Boston Artists2021 Third Place, Jerrys Artarama Self Portrait Competition2021 First Place Still Life, Art Renewal Center Annual Salon2020 Bronze Medal, Annual Non-Members Juried Show, Guild of Boston Artists 2020 3rd Place Still Life Category 37th Artist Magazine Annual Art Competition2020 Portrait/Figure Honorable Mention 37th Artist Magazine Annual Art Competition2020 Gary T Erbe Award, Allied Artists 107th Annual Exhibition2020 Best in Show, Focus on Figures, North River Arts Society, MA2019 Educator Scholarship to attend Figurative Art Conference and Expo2019 Best in Show, Richeson Still Life and Floral2019-2021 Fellowship at Saint Botolph Club, Boston, MA2018 Silver Medal, Annual Non-Members Juried Show, Guild of Boston Artists2017 First Place, Savvy Painter Competition2017 Third Place, Still life Competition at the Grand Central AcademyOrganizationsFellow at the Saint Botolph Club, Boston, MAGalleriesSusan Powell Gallery, Madison, CTRLS Gallery, Charleston, South CarolinaBowersock Gallery, Provincetown, MA
