In his studios in Connecticut, and Chatham, Massachusetts, Jim Magner creates marine landscapes and seascapes. Inspired while sailing and navigating the waters of the East Coast, Jim has observed first-hand the many changing faces the ocean presents as the light, sands and water react to the ever changing environment. As an avid plein air painter, Jim divides his time between painting coastal scenes on location along the New England coast and larger studio works developed from his plein air studies.Jim graduated from Vesper George School of Art in Boston, class of 1966 with a focus on design and painting. Other studies include the University of Hartford Art School and Boston Institute of Architecture. Jim’s professional affiliations, as well as his great appreciation of French and American Impressionism provide him with a foundation necessary to interpret and create vibrant and expressive paintings that capture the spirit of his subject.Jim’s work is in numerous private and corporate collections in the United States and abroad.
