One of Russia's most important conceptual photographers, Chezhin's work can be found in numerous international photographic collections. His work aims to capture the unpredictable by using purely photographic processes in order to create a "new reality" within one negative.Andrey Chezhin was born in Leningrad in 1960. He graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Film Engineers in 1982. During his years in the Institute Andrey became involved with photography. He joined the famous photo club Mirror in 1985 and later the TAK group (1987-1996). Chezhin became a member of such organizations like art association Photopostscriptum in 1993, Humanitarian Foundation “Free Culture” in 1996, and the International Federation of Artist (IFA) in 1998. He is also a member of the Union of Photo Artists of Russia since 1995, a founder of the annual photo festival Autumn Photo Marathon (since 1998). Chezhin is the director of the PHOTOimage gallery and of the Museum of Drawing-Pin both in St. Petersburg. He had some 60 solo exhibitions and a participated in over 160 group exhibitions in Russia, Europe and the US.
