For nearly half a century, Croatian-born, Houston-based artist Nadezda Prvulovic has created paintings that are inspired by her first sight of abandoned melting cauldrons upon a visit to the steel factories in Thionville, France. Prvulovic studied painting and sculpture at the University of Fine Arts in Belgrade, Serbia, and Montenegro. Upon emigrating to France, she studied at the School Andre Lotin in Paris, and worked there for two years with sculptor Ossip Zadkine in his studio.
Prvulovic's work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across the globe at institutions including the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, the Contemporary Art Museum in Ljubljana, the Grand Palais, the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris, UNESCO, and the El Paso Museum of Art. Her paintings can be found in the public collections of numerous institutions and organizations such as the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the National Library of France, Lehigh University, Texas A&M University, and the Modern Gallery in Zagreb, Croatia. The artist has lived in Texas since the mid 1980's, and also maintains a residence in New York City.
