Lured by the awesome beauty of Hawaiʻi, Michael Van Dorn was drawn to the islands from Southern California in 1968. Teaching public school on Oʻahu for many years, he spent his free time exploring these magnificent mountains, seas and skies. His experience hiking, sailing, surfing and hang gliding sharpened his eye and inspired him to capture Hawaiʻiʻs beauty on canvas. Michaelʻs paintings are often portrayed with a touch of fantasy and feeling of nostalgia for simpler times gone by when man was in tune with nature.
