Nancy Vilhauer is an award winning artist who has been in exhibits at the Honolulu Museum of Art, the Hawaiʻi state art Museum, the Linekona main gallery and several other venues. Nancy studied art at the university of Puget sound where she got her bachelor of arts degree. She also studied painting at Otis college of art and design.Nancy is particularly drawn to the people of Hawaiʻi and their traditions. This is reflected in her images of hula, keiki and images that reflext life in the islands in early time. She finds the local culture to be an endless source of inspiration. Her limited edition prints employ the intaglio methods of drypoint, etching and aquatint. It involves inscribing an image on a metal or plexiglass plate using sharp tools, chemicals to create lines in the plate, inking the plate by hand and making the prints one at a time on an etching press. When the prints are dry, they are signed and numbered as a limited edition prints. Althought this is a labor intensive process that has not changed very much since the days when Rembrandt sent his copper plates throught his 17th century etching press.
