If you own an art piece by Patrick Ching you can be assured that you have something of lasting value. His subjects have been studied thoroughly with eyes that see much deeper than most. Many turn to Ching for his expertise in Hawaiian wildlife. Since 1982 he started his company Naturally Hawaiian which was the theme for his art, books and slideshow lectures. For many years he wrote a newspaper column, entitled "Naturally Hawaiian", for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. Patrick also has a dozen best selling books published on various wildlife subjects. Chingʻs zest for life is apparent to all who meet him. Today his interests include fishing, surfing, hand gliding, riding horses and eating great food.Patrickʻs accomplishments include being Hawaiʻiʻs top high school artist receiving college scholarships to California College of Arts and Otis/Parsons Art Institute in 1980, a one man show at Governor John Waiheʻeʻs office in 1984, being Hawaiʻiʻs youngest artist to design the GTE Hawaiian Telephone book cover featuring Halleyʻs comet over Mauna Kea observatories in 1986, being the only artist ever from Hawaiʻi to be juried into the prestigious "Birds in Art" exhibit in Wausau, Wisconsin featuring the works best bird artists in 1987 and 1988, and being selected from an international pool to paint Hawaiʻiʻs first wildlife conservation stamp in 1996. In that same year he opened the Naturally Hawaiian Gallery in Waimānalo. "I was 16 when I decided I was going to make a living as an artist ʻor die tryingʻ. I paint the places and things that I love with the colors that have surrounded my life. My objective is to bring the beauty that Iʻve experienced into peopleʻs homes and lives so that they may appreciate the things that are Naturally Hawaiian".
