Susan McGovney Hansen 1933-2011 Freelance painter in watercolor, oil and pastels. Born in California she was educated at UCLA and Art Center School of Design. Susan moved to Hawaiʻi in 1963. Her works featuring polynesian figures and still life were painted in her home studio on the windward side of Oʻahu. "My paintings portray the strengh, grace and gentleness of the Hawaiians honoring their culture with dignity and respect."
When asked what she is most proud of without a doubt itʻs her three children. "Raising them was the most important thing in my life but when they were grown I returned to the studio and launched my career."
"My intent is to engage the viewer not only visually but intellectually as well." One of her favorite subjects is her good friend and mentor Hawaiian musician Mihana Souza. She can be seen in many of her paintings. Susan McGovney Hansenʻs work is collected worldwide and can be seen in some of the most prestigious locations in the islands.
