South West by Midwest. A description of my work. The flora and fauna of the desert and its open sky have inspired and informed my work for some 32 years now. I came west from the Great Lakes region in the early 1990's. My husband and I explored the desert highways and byways on motorcycles and in a series of decrepit vans. Via my walks and hikes thru both the Chihuahuan and the Sonoran desert, I have been entranced with the spiny , prickly, succulent denizens that dwell there. Sometimes I seek to record the infinite beauty of the landscape objectively. Other images border on the abstract, celebrating form and movement as it inspires me. My color palette is saturated and psychedelic to create a sense of encounter and experience. When I paint a cactus or tree or flower removed from the landscape its like I am having a dialogue with that entity, creating a portrait of sorts. I now live and create in Ajo, Arizona with my husband Richard (Dick), and my dog Nina.
