"My paintings are inspired by the natural setting of Hawaiʻi and the South Pacific. Many of the ideas for the work come from personal experiences through travel, surfing and life in Hawaiʻi. Some paintings are site specific while others evolve during the painting process and simply reference familiar locations. Lighting and detail are extremely important when rendering a work, I love working with color. The challencge of painting is to create a mood or feeling within a painting. I have always been drawn to tropical settings and have been fortunate enough to have lived both in Hawaiʻi and the Caribbean. Many beautiful corners of the globe are in danger of being damaged or destroyed. I feel it is our privilege to enjoy these areas and our responsability to preserve them.
