Louis Copt has been painting professionally since 1976. He received a BA in art from Emporia State University in 1971, and also studied at the Art Students League of New York. He recently was the focus of a feature article in American Artist, which is based in New York and is one of the oldest art publications in the country. Collectors of Louis’ work include the Kansas City Chiefs, H&R Block, Texas A&M, Federal Home Loan Bank, the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, the Overland Park Convention Center, CrossFirst Bank, and private collectors across the country. In 2011 he was named Governor’s Artist by the Kansas Arts Commission.Louis paints mostly in oil and pastel. He has lived and traveled extensively in Europe, and has led groups of students on extended painting trips through France and Italy. In addition he has traveled with the Kansas Geological Survey on a photographic expedition through the Grand Canyon, serving as the official artist for the trip. Copt’s work has been featured three times in The Artist's Magazine, and three times he has won their award for Top Finalist in the Landscape Division. He has also written articles for the Lawrence Journal World, and the Topeka Capital Journal.
