Mark Brasuell’s life and artwork revolves around his own personal experience. He uses energy, motion, and physicality when creating his art. Usually a piece starts out as a vague idea about the emotional impact Brasuell wants the piece to have, but never plans out the finished piece in advance and reserves all judgement until the final stages of the piece. To Mark, the last 10 or 15 minutes of the painting process is the best part. For the last several years, Mark has focused on the style he has coined as ‘conceptual abstraction.’ Based in color, action, as well as personal and emotional ideas, his works include a background, foreground, a contrast between vibrant and moody colors, and an occasional ghost image. Born in Texas, Mark moved to Colorado in 1987 after finishing his BFA at Texas Tech University. He was tired of the sandstorms and wanted to live in a place that was beautiful and green. Currently, Mark teaches at Metro State College of Denver and is a founding member of EDGE Gallery. Clients include the University of Denver, the Kmart Corporation, the Denver Art Museum, CrossFirst Bank, Hoover Desmond Architects, ADT Security Link Inc., and private clients across the Midwest.
