“Everett Studio works with clay because it is an art medium that is truly limitless. Clay is both flexible and strong, capable of both abstract and lyric expression, it can be both functional and decorative. Working with porcelain, the possibilities are endless. Throwing on the wheel, one feels the dynamic interaction between the artist, and the medium - clay - that is truly centering. One feels the push and the pull of the clay, its resistance and pliability. As we submerge this collaboration into the creative process, we delight in the conversations and results. Working each day in the studio together, mother and son, is a wonder-filled experience as two generations sharing knowledge, techniques and conceptual aesthetics. The contemporary porcelain that we produce is an expression of confident wet brush strokes on wet clay pieces. The bold colors of these three-dimensional paintings speak to a modern sense of theory and composition. We love the process of clay, and with it, the endless ability to entertain new ideas. Whatever is being created, it is usually metaphoric; it is all a part of a much larger spiritual journey of discovery and purpose. We honor the experience and history."ABOUTColleen Everett is a renowned master potter, college professor, member of the American Crafts Council, who has been a professional artist for 45 years. An endless listing of gallery representation, art shows, commissions and public art grants fills out a very rewarding career in ceramics. Nick Everett is an avid traveler and anthropologist who brings global influences into the studio and synthesizes contemporary art and architecture into the porcelains. After his intense and lengthy apprenticeship in the family’s production studio, Nick now incorporates his own designs, color-palette, and energy that brings the studio into the future. These Contemporary Porcelains are unique wheel thrown one of a kind clay pieces, finished with 20 layers of studio formulated engobes, vitreous slips and stains painted over a highly textured surface. The result is three dimensional installations of abstract expression for one’s fine art collection.
