Tamera Avery creates paintings that celebrate youth as agents of change within fraught social, political, and environmental landscapes. Her figures, often masked or costumed, occupy spaces shaped by tension and transformation, appearing both vulnerable and heroic. Drawing on the visual language of folk carnivals, collage, and found imagery, Avery constructs scenes that feel theatrical, urgent, and psychologically charged.Her work engages the instability of the present while holding open the possibility of renewal.
