Lauren Bolshakov is a Charlotte, NC based artist, best known for her abstract mixed media paintings, defined by soft colors, balance, and elegant linework. She works in watermedia, incorporating charcoals, pastels and most recently oils on a variety of surfaces. Having been a dancer for many years, it’s not surprising that reoccurring themes of movement and communication are often present, while her more recent works draw on inspiration from collected nature. Artist Statement: My process is focused on the application of paint and linework, each layer responding intuitively to the last and with each other, creating expressive, movement driven works that reflect my inspiration by nature, movement, and by the fleeting beauty of florals. My most recent body of work seeks to align my love for fluid transparent layers peeking through heavy bodied paint applications and accentuated with graphite and charcoal.
