Dean Johnson is a third generation artist who began painting at the age of seven alongside his father. He began to establish his reputation as an artist in New York at the age of 18 and by 22 he had his first solo show at the famed Stricoff Gallery in SOHO.As a child of the 60’s, Johnson found himself in awe of the abstract works of artists like Frank Stella and Joan Mitchell. He says, “Frank Stella’s works have always inspired my art. His multidimensional pieces really got to me, and kept me up at night. Upon seeing La scienza della Pigrizia at 17 years old, I knew this was my life’s work. Joan Mitchell’s use of color has continuously inspired me throughout the years. Though she does not use a primary palette, her unique colors express a vivid spectrum.”In review of his work, Art Speak Magazine commented; “Johnson’s work has been compared to the top forerunners in this style. His three dimensional multi medium sculptures are original works of art. The prolific painter starts with an idea, works consciously with his feelings and translates realistic events into abstract images”.Dean works out of his Westhampton Beach studio on Long Island, producing art for prominent galleries, private collectors and corporate customers throughout the East Coast, California and around the globe. His one-of-a-kind pieces have caught the eye of various athletes, celebrities and luxury designers.Today, Johnson's art continues to stand out and demands notice, not only for its vibrant colors and complex shapes, but for the diversity of the artist’s scope. The three-dimensional harmony of Dean’s art has produced works of astonishing emotion that remain unique in the art world. His latest works embody the elegance and beauty of femininity and the complex shapes of the world that surrounds us.
