Chris’ paintings are intimate expressions of her interactions with the natural world. She primarily works in oil but relies on a variety of mixed media to add depth to the two-dimensional surfaces she transforms. Her neutral palette reflects her love of stones, concrete, driftwood, shells and other subject matter while her gestural style echoes the energy she is exploring. “Presence and intuition are the foundation of my abstract painting process. I am inspired by and interested in the connection I feel and the natural beauty I see in objects that are simple, unadorned and uncomplicated. With paint and drawing media, I explore the peace and grace I find in those observations. My intention is to enhance viewers’ surroundings with evocative compositions that reflect the elegance of life as seen in its simplest forms. My practice is complete when I leave nothing off the canvas but the tension between the marks and painted spaces feels profound.”
