After earning a BA in Art from Plymouth State College in New Hampshire in 2001, Jack Storms was introduced to the glass medium through an apprenticeship with a prominent East Coast glass sculptor. Within a year, Jack had become the manager of the fast paced studio, and after a year there, moved out to California to open a west-coast production studio for the artist. Early in 2002, inspired by the medium of cold glass, Jack turned his efforts to putting together his own glass studio—StormWorks Studio—and released a new look to the cold-working glass world. Jack Storms creates his work in his facility in Red Bluff, California. Using dichroic, lead crystal and the highest grade optical glass as his main materials, each piece is meticulously shaped by hand. Because of the care and precision put into the creation of individual pieces, they can take up to six weeks to produce. “Many people see cold worked glass as being very technical and distant from the human experience. I try to overcome that. I seek to make a bridge from myself to the work. I strive to bring a sense of organic nature to all of my pieces.” Jack Storms’ real artistry is an extraordinary understanding of the way light can transmit feeling into glass. Not only a brilliant technician, Storms is an innovator of the highest caliber, infusing cold glass with imagination, emotion, and warmth as light plays through these inspired pieces. Jack’s work is sought after by discriminating collectors and has been juried into both the BAGI (Bay Area Glass Institute) and Pilchuck Glass School auctions. Jack is busy with both exhibitions as well as commissioned art pieces. Jack Storms is currently represented in art galleries throughout the Western United States. For a gallery near you please call.
