Rodney SmithVancouver, British ColumbiaCarver Rod Smith is a Canadian indigenous artist born in 1966 in Vancouver. He is best known for his elegant and detailed painting style and his carvings. He was taught by his father and artist, the late Harris Smith (Kwakwaka'wakw). Rod was given two names Thaelkualis – He Who Feasts the People Till Morning and Galuyagmi – Great First Birth. Together with his brother Steve Smith and his father, they created a 8 foot pole at Lattimer Gallery, Vancouver. He continues to create new and exciting contemporary NorthWest Coast designs, sometimes together with his wife Janice Smith.
