Agnes NanogakBaillie Islands, Northwest TerritoriesDrawing Artist Encouraged by her father, Agnes began drawing at a very young age creating scenes of childhood and Inuit life using pencils and later on felt-tip pens. Many of her early drawing have been made into prints from the Holman Artist cooperative. Agnes earned an honorary degree from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1985 being the first ever Inuit artist to receive an honorary degree from a University. In 2000, Agnes was diagnosed with lung cancer but continued her work until her death in 2001. Even after her passing, her work has been displayed globally in numerous exhibitions.
