Jon Summers is a visual artist and painter working in Omaha, Nebraska. He received a BFA while studying at the Kansas City Art Institute. His paintings depict a response to the relationship between space, texture and color in the landscape. His vibrant canvases incorporate bold color, strong lines and complex layers. He believes that as a landscape painter, each piece begins with a thought about a landscape, but he is not trying to recreate nature. It’s about the mark making and the space between the spaces. His work is very process-oriented. Though he works on several pieces at a time, he is dedicated and deeply involved with each painting until it is finished. His hope is that viewers are drawn into his uniquely reimagined landscapes in a way that feels familiar yet undefined. Artist Statement"Inspiration comes to me through observation and often contains elements found in the landscape. My beginning thought is then enhanced by the act of creating.
