Paul Beebe was born in 1965 in New Haven, Connecticut. He is a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University, with a degree in Graphic Design. Paul has been painting since age 15. Drawn to marine subjects after his first visit to the island of Martha’s Vineyard 28 years ago, he found inspiration in its rich maritime history as well as the beautiful effects of light and atmosphere that are found near the ocean. Starting with a preliminary value sketch, Paul develops his paintings using multiple layers of color from a limited palette. His finished paintings are highly expressive works that often feature the luminous skies and muted colors that define his subject in different atmospheric conditions. Paul lives in Connecticut and enjoys plein air painting along the Connecticut coast, as well as painting larger oils in his studio. Paul is a signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists. He’s a member of the Martha’s Vineyard Art Association and the Salmagundi Art Club in New York City. He has been featured in the ASMA journal, and was also featured in Martha’s Vineyard Magazine. Beebe won the Rudolf J. Shaefer Emerging Artist Award as well as two Awards of Excellence at the Mystic International. He has had works accepted into the American Tonalist Society's Best in Tonalism, 2020, and the American Society of Marine Artists' 1st International Marine Art Exhibition. His painting "Radiance" itoured with the 19th National Exhibition of the American Society of Marine Artists, showing in five museums through March, 2024.
