Born in Mexico City, Javier Cortés’s earliest memories are of attending oil painting classes with his grandmother.
Cortés’s love for visual arts let him to obtain a BFA, Summa Cum Laude, from Boston University’s College of Fine Arts. While there he studied drawing, painting, sculpture, and photography.
Cortés is drawn to the heavenly, dream-like vistas of Provincetown. In his images he wishes to inspire the viewer to engage in a contemplative meditation of ephemeral moments at the edge of the world. Cortés splits his time between Boston and Provincetown, with his partner Lawrence and old English bulldogs Jasper B. Johns and Vivienne B. Westwood.
